Pant WI AGM report

At their AGM and members’ evening held on 6th November, the ladies of Pant WI reflected on the speakers they had welcomed to their meetings during 2025.

Over the year speakers had covered a wide range of subjects from the challenges of providing medical care at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan, the success story of ospreys breeding in the Dyfi valley, the impact of climate change on farming, protecting against cybercrime, through to the ancient trees of Shropshire. During the year, members enjoyed a fascinating variety of topics and looked forward to more of the same for their 2026 programme.

Their show committee goes from strength to strength, with successes at both the Oswestry Show in August and the WI Day at Shrewsbury Abbey in September being celebrated. The latter event saw an entry in every single class – both individual and co-operative – being submitted.

The competition cups were awarded, with Caroline Buxton winning first place and receiving the Glenys Evans Cup. In second place, and receiving the WI Cup, was Jane Thompson. Eiry Roberts was in third place.

The elections followed, and Sandra Tindle stepped down as President. She was thanked by the members for all her hard work and commitment over the last three years. Janet Jones agreed to become President and was duly elected. Jane Wood resigned from the committee, and four new members were welcomed: Margaret Edwards, Esther Marot, Anne Kynaston and Jean Hurrell. Jean was also elected as Treasurer.

Pant WI meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7.15pm at Pant Memorial Institute. New members or anyone who is interested in coming along and finding out more, please get in touch at pantwi1931@gmail.com. At their December meeting, they will welcome Gabriela La Foley for an evening of festive entertainment.
