9 COMMUNITY RIGHT TO BID FOR CROSS GUNS INN, PANT. Shropshire Council
have confirmed receipt of the Council’s intention to bid on Cross Guns Inn, Rockwell
Lane, Pant and In accordance with Section 98 of the Localism Act 2011, the full
moratorium period of six months has now commenced and ends on 20th April 2026, and
the protected period of 18 months expires on 20th April 2027.

But often we probably don’t take a step back and see the full breadth of community activity that’s taking place – literally under our noses.

Pant Together have arranged a number of community events such as bingo and quizzes in Pant Memorial Hall and, along with the Pop-Up Pub taking place in the hall too, these give locals an opportunity for an evening out – especially now that the Cross Guns is closed and on the market.

There are a number of events that take place at both Pant Memorial Hall and Llanymynech Village Hall such as classes, concerts, sports and fitness activities.

Both halls are run and managed by volunteers from the local community and Llanymynech & Pant Parish Council is made up of local community representatives too.

Pant Autumn Bazaar has become a village fixture which not only raises important funds for the upkeep of Pant’s community asset but brings dozens of people together to chat and socialise.

Within a short distance we have rounders, bowling and football clubs as well as a golf club with social activities.

For many, amateur dramatics is their thing and the LADS (Llanymynech Amateur Dramatics Society) is a well know example of a vibrant drama company locally who have performed in both Pant and Llanymynech.

Local people often organise fundraising events for local and national causes they feel passionate about, which bring friends and neighbours together.

Our two parish churches and chapel all hold regular services as well as other events such as the regular Meet & Eat held by Morton Church in the Memorial Hall and a dementia-friendly sofa club.

Pant Women’s Institute is very active holding monthly meetings, with a wide range of speakers on numerous subjects. They are also open to new members.

Llanymynech Canal Wharf and the Shropshire Union Canal Society both have Montgomery Canal related activities and we shouldn’t forget Bryn Offa School too!

There are certainly dozens of other events and activities locally that we have missed but it’s fair to say that there’s a lot of community around here.

The thing that makes all these events possible and successful is volunteers.

Sometimes it may feel that we are isolated as a village and individually, but scratch the surface and there’s lots going on to get involved with.

Situated outside Pant Memorial Hall, the shelter is on the south bound side of the A483 but can be used by those waiting to go north towards Oswestry.

Discussions are currently taking place with Tanat Valley which operates local buses to request that the bus should stop opposite, if requested.

As residents and visitors will know, buses are not that frequent and as Sean from the Memorial Hall committee said, a shelter might encourage more people to use the bus locally or when visiting the Memorial Hall.

Funding for the shelter came from the parish council using money from local development.

Said Alice Bond, chair of the parish council: “The Llanymyench and Pant parish council are pleased that we were able to help fund and plan the new bus shelter located by the villlage hall in Pant for the benefit of the community.”

In due course, a timetable will be hung up in the shelter but in the meantime visit www.tanat.co.uk or https://traws.cymru/en/services/LLCO/T12 where you can track the T12 bus between Machynlleth and Wrexham in real-time.
