Improvement works at Llynclys

You may have received notice from Helen Morgan MP that National Highways will be improving the surface, markings and signage at Llynclys Crossroads next month.

Helen Morgan recently held a public meeting at Llanymynech Village Hall attended by National Highways representatives to discuss the cross roads and improvements on the A483 between Llynclys, Pant and the Welsh border at Llanymynech.

In an email to residents, Helen Morgan included information sent to her by National Highways which sets out the dates and works planned at the crossroads.

Starting on Monday 23 February 2026, some smaller scale interventions will be undertaken which it is hoped will go some way to reducing the collisions at the crossroads.

The email said: “We will be renewing the high friction surfacing on the approaches to the crossroads as it is currently very worn. Many of the collisions we see at the junction involve vehicles pulling out onto the A483 into the path of oncoming traffic. High friction surfacing can significantly reduce braking distances which will give north/southbound vehicles a better chance of stopping in time if a vehicle pulls into their path.

“As part of the work we will also refresh the road markings and studs (cats eyes) approaching and within the junction, including the worn red “SLOW” warning. This will make the junction much more apparent to approaching vehicles and therefore be better aware of an upcoming hazard.

“Whilst we have the road closed, we will take the opportunity to reduce the height of vegetation near the approach warning signs to make them more visible, and also carry out any defect repairs as necessary such as repairing any damaged signs or road drainage gullies.

“The A483 will be closed each night Monday to Friday between 9pm and 6am starting on Monday 23 February. We expect the work to take 10 shifts, so we should be complete by 6am Saturday 7 March 2026. The work will be weather dependant so could take longer if we experience unfavourable conditions.

“Long distance/through traffic will be diverted via the A5 and A458. Local access routes to Llynclys will be signed.”
