Confidence for roundabout at Llynclys

A public meeting hosted by Helen Morgan MP at Llanymynech Village Hall heard from National Highways and the police about plans for the A483 from Llynclys Crossroads to the Welsh Border at Llanymynech.

Joined by neighbouring constituency MP Steve Witherden and Shropshire Council councillors, Helen Morgan organised the meeting attended by over 120 local residents to give National Highways representatives an opportunity to “hear views”.

Speakers from National Highways explained the way that they put funding requests to national government for projects such as those on the A483. They are currently working on developing bids around three key areas including improvement works to the stretch, improving route safety, including speed limits and significant improvements to the current crossroads at Llynclys.

Although central government still needs to sign off on the funding National Highways said that there is “lots of confidence” that a roundabout will be the improvement made at the junction rather than traffic lights. Liaison with landowners is now taking place and from next year, testing and surveys will be taking place to inform the eventual design of the roundabout.

Helen Morgan took a number of questions from the public and a wide range of issues were covered from the much discussed Llanymynech and Pant By-Pass, to the speed of traffic, bad driver behaviour and possible new pedestrian crossings.

Helen also read out a letter from Bryn Offa School containing a number of messages from local children and an observation from the head that “a major incident could happen”. She added that this information had been sent to the Transport Minister.

Alice Bond, chair of Llanymynech & Pant Parish Council welcomed the comments from both Helen Morgan and National Highways and reiterated the council’s view that speeding is an issue on the A483 that needs addressing.

The police represetative present said that people with video footage of bad driver behaviour should upload it to Operation Snap being run by West Mercia Police. He also encouraged people to find out more about Community Speed Watch and would take back requests for more regular visits from speed enforcement officers.
