Seven Trent Water has installed a new piece of equipment to improve the chlorine control at its Shelton Water Treatment Works, which should give a more consistent taste to the water leaving the works.
Locals in Pant and surrounding areas fed by the Shelton Water Treatment Works have complained about the sometimes high taste of chlorine in their tap water.
According to Seven Trent, the previous arrangements at Shelton resulted in the amount of chlorine left in the water varying as demand changed. This resulted in some customers noticing this as a varying taste. Chlorine is added to the water as part of the treatment process and a small amount is left in the water to protect the water on its journey to customers’ homes.
A spokesperson for Seven Trent said: “The new equipment reduces the chlorine levels as the water leaves the works and this should give a more consistent taste to the Shelton water, which is also then blended with water from two borehole sites before it reaches Pant.”
