Major project at Pant Memorial Hall

The next few months are likely to be very busy at Pant Memorial Hall as work gets underway on installing new solar panels and the Annual General Meeting takes place on Thursday 17th March at 7pm.

Speaking ahead of the Pant Memorial Hall’s AGM, chair of trustees Sean said: “We were delighted to finally sign the contract in February with Ellesmere-based Princes LHS Ltd for our Centenary Improvement Project, which will see major work taking place at the hall to improve our energy efficiency.

“As well as doing our bit for the environment, with the price of energy rocketing it made sense to us at the hall to look at renewable alternatives. Our new solar installation will help us reduce our energy bills, generate our own green electricity and, hopefully keep our booking fees as low as possible. The new system will heat our water too, enabling us to dispense with the cumbersome water heaters above the sinks and handbasins.”

The electric heating system in the hall is old and unsightly, so the existing heaters are going to be replaced with modern, efficient, thermostatically controlled heaters throughout the hall.

Addressing other work that will be taking place in 2022 – the 100th Anniversary of the hall – Sean said: “We will also be refurbishing the small bar area next to the kitchen. We needed to do some building work to accommodate the battery storage for the solar system in the cupboard behind the bar, so it made sense to revamp the whole area. In recent years, this has been become somewhat neglected and it is under-utilised. The committee thinks that it will enhance the appeal of the hall to have a functioning bar / drinks serving area, with a better serving hatch, two sinks and brand new bar top.

“Finally, we are doing some much-needed remedial work to the hall roof and we’re repairing the broken and uneven payment that you may have noticed around the phone box outside the hall,” added Sean.

The project has been made possible by two awards. The hall has received £20,000 from the People’s Postcode Trust and another £9,900 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

If you would like to find out more about the Centenary Improvement Project and how things are going at the hall, the Annual General Meeting is on Thursday 17th March at 7pm at the hall. Everyone is welcome, there will be light refreshments and an opportunity to discuss the plans for the hall.
